For the past 13 years, A State Of Trance has been a labour of love for Armin van Buuren. His radio show, attracting 20 million loyal listeners each week, is up for its 650th episode in 2014. A feat that’ll be celebrated with the extensive ‘New Horizons’ world tour – touching down in cities such as Buenos Aires, Jakarta, Miami, Yekaterinburg, Utrecht and Kuala Lumpur.

I had the chance to take a first to the mixes before their final release. So here are all important information about this album highlight inclusive my personal evaluation of each mix!

Evaluation: If you like Armin’s anual Year Mix, you will love his “ASOT 650″ mix. With 28 tracks Armin mixed the highest amount of titles on his CD. As a result no track has much more than 2 minutes space – so don’t expect long build ups and huge breaks. But what you can expect is a journey into the history of trance with wonderful classics like Rank 1′s “Airwave”, Chicane’s “Saltwater”, Veracocha’s “Cart Blanche” and Solarstone’s “Solarcoaster” ending up with Jorn van Deynhoven’s theme song for ASOT 650 “New Horizons”.

Evaluation: My personal highlight of the 5 mixes comes from the two sympathic Egyptians. Aly & Fila concentrate in their mix mostly on instrumental trance supplemented by some huge vocal anthems. At the end stands an harmonic journey which gives every track enough space. These 75 minutes are everything which Trance stands for. Really wonderful!

Evaluation: The mix by Kyau & Albert proves in an impressive way why the two Germans and their label Euphonic are successful now for a so long time. full of true classics and younger productions from themselves and of course the Euphonic family (Stoneface & Terminal, Ronski Speed and Cressida) the mix results in an absolute harmonic listening pleasure.

Evaluation: In a not less similar way to BT and Kyau & Albert the youngest talent on this sampler, Omnia, showcases in his mix a high number of own productions and remixes. Complemented is this mix by personal choices. Starting deep and relaxed with the amazing Blizzard Intro Mix of “Beauty Hides In The Deep” and Ashley Wallbridge’s “Vision”, Omnia increases fastly the energy in his set and goes straight the way through aggressive bass lines and euphoric melodies.
