Talking about “Elements” with… Mark Sixma

We talked with Mark Sixma about his mix-compilation “Elements”, the relaunch of his alias M6 and much more! Enjoy reading!

TranceAttack: Hey Mark, nice to have you for some words at “TranceAttack”. Where do we catch you at the moment?
Mark:
On my couch, recovering after a weekend in the UK!

TranceAttack: You new compilation “Elements” has been just released. Congrats for that! What can we expect from this new piece of art?
Mark:
Thanks! “Elements” marks the return of my former alias M6. I used to release more higher bpm, uplifting and euphoric tracks under that name and that’s exactly what this compilation is about!

TranceAttack: “Elements” contains Mark Sixma releases as well as releases under your alias M6. Can you shortly describe the difference between it?
Mark:
Mark Sixma releases tend to be lower bpm and more ‘big room’ than M6, so for them to fit on this compilation I asked some of my favoUrite producers in the uplifting trance style to remix those tracks!

TranceAttack: You were born in Breda, the Netherlands, the city where a lot of stars come from as Tiesto or Hardwell. Seems to be naturally way to become a star in the electronic music scene with this background. 🙂 How did your career start exactly?
Mark:
I started to DJ at school parties when I was about 12 years old and by the time I was 16 years old I got my first break to play at the local club where Tiesto used to be resident! Even though we had school the next day, a lot of my friends showed up and we partied hard! Not everyone made it to class the next morning hahaha!

TranceAttack: You played nearly all major events. What was your personal favourite?
Mark:
Premiering my collab with Armin van Buuren “Panta Rhei” at ASOT Festival was definitely a highlight for me. Also this year I played my first ever Dreamstate event under my M6 alias. It was absolutely amazing!!

TranceAttack: What is your favourite dish (While Checking your Facebook you lately post with a lasagna ;), your favourite film and favourite artist offside from electronic ?
Mark:
My lasagna is pretty good, but nothing beats barbecue at my parent’s place! 🙂 Pulp Fiction, legendary! Not sure you consider him an artist, but Chopin was such a brilliant composer!

TranceAttack: You do a lot of remixing and your tracks are also often get a touch by other producers. What’s in the pipeline?
Mark:
My next remix release is for one of my all time favourite trance tracks “Vincent de Moor – Fly Away”. It’s also featured on this compilation! Apart from that I’ve just finished a vocal track with one of my favourite vocalists in the scene, Betsie Larkin!

TranceAttack: When we checked your social media, we saw you hiking in the woods. What do you do for finding balance from the hectic life as DJ?
Mark:
Hiking is definitely something I like to do! Apart from that what helps balance the hectic tour life may sound a bit boring: spending time at home. Watching movies, playing PS4 and of course producing music!
Mark Sixma
TranceAttack: How does an actual day look like in Mark Sixma’s life? Producing from 8 to 5 or do you wait for for that special moment when the muse is kissing you?
Mark:
I get up around 8 and around 9 I fire up my PC. Sometimes I start producing right away, sometimes I do some emails and browsing first. Usually until it’s dinner time. If there’s deadlines I’ll work till late, but it’s usually 9 to 6.

TranceAttack: Apropos muse – is there a Miss Sixma?
Mark:
Yes there is! Someone needs to hold down the fort when I’m on tour 😉

TranceAttack: If someone would like to start in the music business today, what advice do you have for him?
Mark:
Work harder than the competition and be reliable!

TranceAttack: Time is running… 2016 comes to an end. Are there any highlights left until the end of the year?
Mark:
Next month is the release of my collab with Standerwick and gig wise I’m touring Europe and closing 2016 with a bang in Portrush with my mate Ben Nicky!!

TranceAttack: What was your personal goal for 2016?
Mark:
Relaunching M6!

TranceAttack: Do you have a favorite track of 2016? Which one and why?
Mark:
Gouryella – Neba. What a melody, wow!!

TranceAttack: What can we expect from you in 2017?
Mark:
Lots of new music and shows under both Mark Sixma and M6!!

TranceAttack: Thank you for the interview and all the best for the future!
