We had the chance to talk with Ferry Tayle about his music, his second artist album “The Wizard” and his plans for the future! Enjoy reading! 😉

TranceAttack: First of all, congrats for the release of your second artist album “The Wizard”. What can the listener expect?
Ferry Tayle:
Thanks a lot! I wanted to tell a story first. It’s not just a compilation with some of my tracks. Random tracks played don’t make sense. You have to listen to the album from start to finish because the order is very important. Doing an album for me is being able to do & experience more styles that I like and not having to be stuck in one genre. That’s why you have a very wide sound on it. I tried to make this album like you’re watching a magic show with your ears.

TranceAttack: What’s the idea behind the album title “The Wizard”?
Ferry Tayle:
ID&T called me “the French Wizard” during the last Trance Energy in 2010. I was very honored by this title that I kept it for this album, and so I worked around the magical atmosphere to bring you “The Wizard”.

TranceAttack: Since the release of your first album “Carnet De Vol” in 2008 six years have passed. Why took it so long till you finished your second LP?
Ferry Tayle:
I worked on it for 4 years with different versions of each track that you can hear now. Even at the last minute I reworked almost the entire album. I didn’t put every track that I would have liked on the album because otherwise it could be 4 CDs long, but I think I spent around 8000 hours easily on it. From a full day of kick bass work to a couple of hours for making one track. It was a too much of a long process I must admit.
I learned a lot between my first album & this one especially thanks to Laurent “Airwave” Veronnez who is my mentor and people like Daniel Kandi and more recently Darren Porter. Collaborating is always interesting because you learn a lot. I spent more time on each track, working on little details. I become more & more of a perfectionist every year. The sound quality is much better. Music has no limits and that’s what that fascinated me. I realized that most of the time, I’m my own limit.

TranceAttack: I know that it is always difficult for a producer, but please tell us which one is your personal favorite from “The Wizard” and why?
Ferry Tayle:
My personal favourite is “The Wizard”. It’s a very emotional track that I feel could be a score for a movie with its orchestral feeling. It was originally meant to be the intro to the album, but after many listens, we decided to put this track at the end. Almost like you’re closing a show. I think it’s the best track to close the album with and give it that feeling like ‘well, it’s not really the end’!

TranceAttack: What are your plans next to your album release for the rest of 2014 and the future?
Ferry Tayle:
A new album, more collaborations with producers I love and scoring some documentaries & movies. I’m a workaholic so I never really stop.

TranceAttack: Which side do you prefer? Behind the decks in the clubs or behind your equipment in the studio?
Ferry Tayle:
It’s 50/50! I really like both because without the studio part, I would not be able to be behind the decks, and when I’m behind the decks, it inspires me so I come back into the studio to express my feelings.

TranceAttack: Is there one tune you play again and again in your sets – an all time favorite?
Ferry Tayle:
They are so many to be honest, it’s really hard to have just one. I would say the track I played the most is Oceanlab – Satellite

TranceAttack: What was the first record you ever bought? And what was your last?
Ferry Tayle:
The very first trance track I bought was Rank 1 – Airwave. I love this track so much. It means a lot for me because without it, I would not be here at the moment. My last one was actually on old one: Aurora – Ordinary World (Above & Beyond Remix). I wanted to have it in HQ.

TranceAttack: There are a lot movements in the music scene which focus back on the roots of the trance scene – like Solarstone’s “Pure Trance” or Armin van Buuren’s “Who’s afraid of 138!?”. How changed your style you prefer to play as deejay over all these years and what do think about these movements?
Ferry Tayle:
Well, it’s more brands than real movements. These guys are doing what they like and spread it to the world. After all it’s always all about trance, doesn’t matter if it’s pure, proper, who’s afraid of 138. Trance is a lot of genres. The most important thing is that it brings you emotions. I support trance that deserves to be supported.

TranceAttack: The technical evolution of deejay equipment is really impressive. What is your preferred equipment you spin with? Do you prefer CD’s or USB Stick?
Ferry Tayle:
I must admit I use USB, because you can bring more tracks with your & it’s more flexible. You can bring a last minute track which is very cool!

Press-Pic-4TranceAttack: What is your opinion on the future of the EDM?
Ferry Tayle:
The hype about the “EDM” sound will be less & less interesting because a lot sounds the same. It will be replaced by another style. It’s always a cycle. Today is EDM, tomorrow maybe Psy Trance etc etc. Music has became like a fast food, you listen and then it becomes trash. It’s really hard to establish a track that will last for a long time!

TranceAttack: What would surprise our readers? Tell us something uncommon about you?
Ferry Tayle:
I never listen to trance at home besides making my radio show or producing and I never go out to a club except when I’m playing. Surprising isn’t it!?

TranceAttack: Thanks for the interview and we wish you all the best for the future!
