There are few acts that can match the work rate of Above & Beyond at the moment. While the tail end of 2015 saw a Grammy nomination for single ‘We’re All We Need’, a sold out live radio broadcast from Sydney’s Allphones Arena and the release of their iTunes #1 dance compilation ‘Anjunabeats Volume 12’, Jono, Paavo and Tony look to raise the bar once again in 2016 with a return to their Acoustic project and much loved OceanLab alias.
Their first release of 2016 is a return to innovative instrumental club music which has been at the centre of their Anjunabeats label for the last 15 years – specifically the darker journey of ‘A.I.’
Debuted by the band at their Group Therapy 150 broadcast, ‘A.I.’ is as gnarly and industrial as the name suggests, full of space-age sounds and synthertic hits. Set to be a formidable feature in Above & Beyond’s DJ sets throughout the year, there are echoes of ‘Walter White’ in the jekyll and hyde structure; warming brass chords in the breakdown betraying the cold, minimalistic drop. It’s a heads down, dance hard moment.
