With his eclectic vision, raw sounds, addictive hooks and unforgiving basslines, Marcel Woods was as much part of ID&T music’s legends as he was of the new High Contrast Recordings clan that took over the mantle from the famous label. When High Contrast just started it were tracks like Woods’ “Cherry Blossom”, “Advanced” and “Beautiful Mind” that represented these early years best… Now Dennis Sheperd has been given the honor to bring back “Beautiful Mind” and he has done so in a classy manner!
Whereas the original was a techy Woods affair with a powerful distorted main lead, Dennis’ version actually gives the track a spin that makes it sound like it came before the original did! Dennis is known for his love of the Golden Age Of Trance, he once gifted supporters of his “Edge Of The World” single a free “Thursday Dream 2000 Remix” provided they could show him a proof of purchase of the original! The most recognizable part of the original are the vocals by Lisa Abbott: as far as the melody goes, Dennis seems to have built upon the original which had a rougher and tougher vibe to it. He also opted for a Classic Trance inspired pluck lead which makes his take sound ever more different to the original. The addition of the strings in the build-up and break give the Sheperd Remix a strong nostalgic character. All in all this remix adds a dreamy dimension to the original and in the current phase of Retro Trance being hotter than hot, it’s a welcome addition by Dennis!
