Above & Beyond feat. Richard Bedford – “Bittersweet & Blue” first appeared on the trio’s 2018 album Common Ground, released through Anjunabeats. Built around Bedford’s reflective vocals and a melodic, 128 BPM Trance arrangement, the track became the basis for an Above & Beyond Club Mix in March 2020. The rework brought a more powerful dancefloor character to one of the album’s introspective vocal moments.
The song reflects the trio’s progressive-leaning, emotionally driven Trance sound, while its later club treatment places greater emphasis on rhythmic energy and live-set impact. The Club Mix had already been introduced at Group Therapy 350 in Prague in October 2019.
The original 2018 version takes a more reflective approach, balancing Richard Bedford’s melancholy vocals with a steady groove, atmospheric synthesizers and melodic progression. Above & Beyond’s 2020 Club Mix retains the song’s emotional identity while introducing stronger percussion, more pronounced builds and a more forceful climax.
Both versions run at 128 BPM, but their arrangements serve different purposes: the original fits the listening experience of Common Ground, while the Club Mix translates the same songwriting into a peak-time Vocal Trance setting.
