Some tracks belong to an era. Others become the sound of it. Some tracks don’t need a big melody. They just need one sound that gets inside your head. Another timeless fusion of classical music and turn-of-the-millennium Trance. Some Trance classics became anthems. Others somehow slipped through the cracks. Ultra's “Free” belongs firmly in the second category. Back to 2006, when Tiësto joined forces with the unmistakable voice of Faithless frontman Maxi Jazz for a track that carried a message far beyond the dancefloor. Before smartphones. Before everyone watched the night through a screen. Just the music, the lights and thousands of people completely lost in the moment. Some Trance records don’t just bring back memories — they transport you somewhere else completely. Back to 2001, when DJ Shog dropped his breakthrough single “This Is My Sound” at Club Rotation. That unmistakable vocal hook, the tension-building break, and the powerful lead still capture the raw energy of early-2000s Trance. In 1999, DJ Buzz transformed Cetu Javu’s 1988 synth-pop gem “Situations” into a hypnotic slice of late-’90s Trance. Produced by Adrian Buentello and Torsten Stenzel, its rolling groove, haunting vocal and slow-burning melodic tension made it one of those records that never needed a huge drop to pull you in.
