British Trance producer Activa returns to VII with “Velorum”, a 140 BPM melodic Trance release that connects his established production identity with the label’s high-energy underground sound.
Activa Returns to VII with Melodic Trance Energy
There has always been a clear connection between Activa’s music and the more traditional foundations of Trance. Long-form arrangements, driving club energy and a strong melodic identity have shaped much of Rob Stevenson’s work across more than two decades.
“Velorum” continues that direction within the VII catalogue. At 140 BPM, the original Extended Mix occupies familiar main-floor territory, placing the emphasis on melodic Trance rather than contemporary genre crossover.
Its seven-minute-plus duration also reflects the importance of the extended format within this part of the scene. Rather than presenting a short, radio-focused version as the centrepiece, the release is built around two full-length club interpretations.
Two Interpretations, Two Sides of Activa
What makes “Velorum” particularly interesting is the decision to include a second version under Activa’s Mekk V alias.
The original represents the melodic side of the release, while the Mekk V remix is positioned as a tougher, more tech-oriented alternative. Both versions maintain the same 140 BPM tempo and C minor key, giving the EP a consistent musical foundation despite the different production approaches.
The distinction also reflects the breadth of Stevenson’s career. Mekk V is an established part of his production history rather than a newly introduced identity, making the remix a connection to his earlier work in harder-edged Trance.
Together, the two versions position “Velorum” for listeners who appreciate the melodic traditions of the genre as well as DJs looking for a more intense interpretation.
A Familiar Name in VII’s Tenth-Anniversary Year
“Velorum” also arrives at a significant moment for VII, as the label celebrates its tenth anniversary in 2026.
For Activa, the release continues an existing relationship with the imprint. His 2023 single “Velika” introduced his solo work to VII, while subsequent releases further developed that connection.
The release has already found its way into relevant radio shows. Activa showcased the original in VII Radio 99, while Solarstone featured “Velorum” in Pure Trance Radio 494.
That combination of label history and early radio support reinforces the track’s place within the established underground Trance community.
TranceAttack Verdict
“Velorum” brings together two recognisable aspects of Activa’s musical identity: melodic Trance under his established artist name and a tougher approach through Mekk V.
The combination gives this VII release a stronger conceptual identity than a conventional single-track release. It also provides a meaningful connection to the producer’s history while fitting naturally into the label’s tenth-anniversary celebrations.
The decisive musical question is how successfully the original balances its melodic development with its 140 BPM club energy—and whether the Mekk V remix adds enough of its own character to justify the alternative interpretation.
