C-Systems push their trademark melodic Trance into faster and more rave-driven territory with “Pillars of Light”, a 140 BPM peak-time instrumental released through Black Hole Recordings on September 25, 2026. Built around an offbeat nu-rave bassline, shimmering synth work and an uplifting central melody, the track finds a convincing middle ground between emotional C-Systems songwriting and harder main-floor energy.

From proglifting idea to 140 BPM peak-time Trance

The story behind “Pillars of Light” says a lot about the finished record.

Its melody originally emerged during a writing session intended for a slower 136 BPM “proglifting” production. Increasing the tempo to 140 BPM and changing the bassline subsequently transformed the character of the track, moving it away from that progressive-uplifting starting point and into significantly more energetic territory.

That change was more than simply making the record faster.

“Pillars of Light” feels designed around momentum. The kick-and-bass foundation keeps the track moving aggressively while leaving enough room above it for the melody to remain the emotional focal point. Instead of asking C-Systems to abandon their established sound, the harder framework gives that sound a different context.

Old-school rave energy meets C-Systems melody

The most distinctive component is the offbeat nu-rave-inspired bassline.

It gives “Pillars of Light” a slightly retro rave pulse beneath an otherwise contemporary Trance production. There is weight and urgency in the low end, but the track never becomes overly abrasive or loses the melodic clarity associated with C-Systems.

The contrast becomes especially effective around the breakdown.

Shimmering synth textures move across the stereo field while the main melodic idea gradually takes control. Black Hole connects that movement directly with the track’s title—the synths suggesting beams or pillars of light moving through a dark night sky.

It is an effective image because the production works through exactly that contrast: darkness underneath, brightness above.

When the energy returns, the melody does not have to compete with an oversized wall of sound. Instead, it rides across the harder rhythmic foundation, giving the climax both lift and drive.

A harder side of C-Systems

C-Systems—Matt Allen and Akki Hisham—have built their identity around melody-driven uplifting and progressive Trance, with releases appearing on labels including Black Hole Recordings, Armada, A State of Trance, Pure Trance and Enhanced Music.

“Pillars of Light” retains that melodic DNA while showing a noticeably more aggressive side of the duo.

That makes it an interesting continuation of their recent Black Hole output. “Under The Sun” operated at 138 BPM, while the Clara Yates collaboration “Home Is Where You Are” arrived at 136 BPM. “Pillars of Light” raises the pace to 140 BPM and strips away the vocal focus, leaving rhythm, melody and atmosphere to carry the entire record.

The result feels less like C-Systems changing direction than expanding their range.

TranceAttack verdict

“Pillars of Light” shows what happens when C-Systems take the melodic instinct at the heart of their music and place it inside a faster, more physical framework.

The melody remains unmistakably important, but it is the interaction between that melody and the rave-influenced bassline that gives the track its personality. At 140 BPM it hits harder than much of the duo’s recent output, yet there is still enough atmosphere and emotional lift to keep the record unmistakably theirs.

More importantly, C-Systems have avoided simply producing another technically polished uplifter. “Pillars of Light” has an identifiable rhythmic hook, strong melodic imagery and enough edge to work beyond purely uplifting sets.
