Armada’s official release page confirms the track on the A State Of Trance label, while ASOT describes it as a “powerful blend of melodic trance and progressive energy” with an atmospheric build-up, emotional melodies, and an impactful drop.
The title is, of course, no coincidence. As shared around the release on the artists’ and trance media socials, “Lacrimosa” reworks the famous 18th-century melody by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, taking that instantly recognizable sense of sorrow and grandeur and translating it into a 140 BPM trance weapon. DIM3NSION himself also framed the release as a major moment for him on the ASOT label, highlighting its Mozart-inspired sound and his collaboration with StanV.
From the opening moments, “Lacrimosa” leans into atmosphere. The production does not rush its emotional reveal; instead, it lets the classical theme breathe before tightening the tension with rolling percussion, a firm low-end pulse and a build that feels deliberately theatrical. Once the melody opens up, the track hits that sweet spot between melancholy and euphoria: mournful in tone, but uplifting in execution. That background makes perfect sense in “Lacrimosa”: there is a clear old-school emotional backbone underneath the clean modern arrangement.
What makes the track work so well is the balance. A classical motif can easily become too obvious or too gimmicky in dance music, but DIM3NSION and StanV keep things focused. The melody gives the record its identity; the bassline and percussion give it momentum; the drop gives it purpose.
