Over his most recent singles run, Giuseppe Ottaviani’s consciously taken himself out of his own musical comfort zone. That’s paved the way for first-time vocal collaborations with singers like Monika Santucci and Mila Josef on atmospherically-led tracks like “With You” & “Fade Away”. In keeping with that ether-before-energy dynamic, with “Something I Can Dream About”, the Italian maven adds a third debut pairing to that list today.
Purposeful of tempo it may be, but there is a markedly house-like roll to ‘Something’s drums, which Giuseppe brilliantly contrasts with industrial FX and mood some note progressions. Further in, he establishes an even more filmic centre of gravity to its production, with growling bass and a subtle, but sharply effective piano line. Adding no end to the track’s emotive depth, April words feel like they’ve been informed by experiences lived, something born out by her authenticity of delivery.
