Jean-Michel Jarre has announced OXYGENE & BEYOND, a major European tour for autumn 2027 celebrating 50 years of his groundbreaking 1976 album Oxygène. The French electronic music pioneer will perform 17 concerts across 13 cities between September 21 and October 24, 2027, combining music from his legendary catalogue with new compositions from a forthcoming studio album expected in spring 2027.
But OXYGENE & BEYOND is more than an anniversary tour. It brings together the origins of modern electronic music, Jarre’s enduring fascination with sound and technology, and a musical legacy that reaches far beyond his own recordings – including the world of Trance.
OXYGENE & BEYOND: A New Live Chapter in 2027
Announced on October 21, 2026, during Amsterdam Dance Event, OXYGENE & BEYOND marks another ambitious chapter in Jean-Michel Jarre’s career.
The tour begins at Spodek Hall in Katowice, Poland, on September 21, 2027. Further performances take Jarre through several European countries, including a German concert at Berlin’s Uber Arena on October 2, three nights at Amsterdam’s Gashouder and three performances at La Seine Musicale in Paris.
Major arena shows in London, Manchester and Barcelona complete the first announced European leg.
The production is being presented as an immersive audiovisual experience, connecting familiar compositions with material from Jarre’s forthcoming album. While further details of the new record have yet to be announced, selected compositions are expected to receive their live premieres during the tour.
A worldwide continuation is planned for 2028, with additional dates still to be confirmed.
50 Years of Oxygène – The Album That Changed Electronic Music
When Jean-Michel Jarre released Oxygène in France in December 1976, electronic music occupied a very different place in popular culture.
Recorded in a makeshift studio inside his Paris apartment, the album was created with analogue synthesisers, tape recording equipment and early electronic instruments, including the EMS VCS3, ARP 2600 and Eminent 310U.
Its six interconnected compositions offered something distinctive: an instrumental journey built around atmospheric textures, hypnotic sequences, evolving melodies and an extraordinary sense of space.
Rather than relying on traditional song structures, Jarre allowed electronic sounds to develop organically, creating a musical experience that could be both experimental and immediately accessible.
The international success of Oxygène, particularly the iconic Oxygène (Part IV), helped introduce synthesisers and electronic composition to a much wider audience.
Fifty years later, its musical language still feels remarkably relevant.
The combination of melodic repetition, expansive atmospheres and gradually evolving arrangements became part of a broader electronic vocabulary that would influence generations of producers.
What Does Jean-Michel Jarre Have to Do With Trance?
Jean-Michel Jarre is not a Trance artist in the conventional sense. His musical roots lie in experimental electronic composition, ambient soundscapes and synthesiser-driven instrumental music.
Nevertheless, several defining characteristics of his productions have clear parallels with the musical foundations of Trance.
Extended melodic development, repeating sequences, immersive atmospheres and the gradual building of emotional intensity all became important elements of the genre decades later.
The connection to Trance became particularly visible at Amsterdam Dance Event on October 21, 2026, when Jean-Michel Jarre welcomed Armin van Buuren on stage at AFAS Live for a joint performance of “Stardust”. Originally released on Jarre’s 2015 album Electronica 1: The Time Machine, the collaboration remains a compelling example of how two generations of electronic music connect.
The Amsterdam appearance was a separate ADE performance and does not indicate that Armin van Buuren will participate in the 2027 tour.
Jarre’s atmospheric synthesiser language met Armin van Buuren’s driving, melody-led Trance approach, creating a record that bridged electronic music history with the contemporary dance floor.
The collaboration was more than a symbolic meeting. It demonstrated how naturally Jarre’s musical ideas could coexist with the sound of modern Trance.
For Trance listeners, that connection provides an additional perspective on OXYGENE & BEYOND: the opportunity to experience one of the artists whose work helped establish the wider musical language from which the genre later emerged.
Beyond Nostalgia: New Music and Immersive Technology
One of the most interesting aspects of OXYGENE & BEYOND is its forward-looking concept.
Rather than simply recreating the sound of 1976, Jarre intends to connect his early electronic experiments with new music and contemporary audiovisual technology.
The announcement followed his appearance at the 30th anniversary of Amsterdam Dance Event on October 21, 2026, where he presented the special immersive performance Oxygene & Beyond: A Sonic Journey Celebrating 30 Years of ADE at AFAS Live.
His ADE programme also explored the relationship between music, machines, creativity and artificial intelligence – subjects that have become increasingly relevant to electronic music production.
The anniversary celebrations continue on November 20, 2026, when BMG releases a 50th-anniversary edition of Oxygène, featuring a new stereo remaster alongside Dolby Atmos and 5.1 surround mixes.
A further milestone comes on November 5 with the publication of MACHINES: A History of Electronic Music, in which Jarre examines the instruments and technological developments that shaped electronic music.
Together, these projects present an artist who continues to look forward while revisiting the work that established his legacy.

Why OXYGENE & BEYOND Matters Beyond the Anniversary
There is something remarkable about an album recorded with a relatively modest collection of analogue instruments continuing to inspire such an ambitious live production half a century later.
For Jean-Michel Jarre, Oxygène became the foundation of an extraordinary career. For electronic music, it helped demonstrate that synthesisers could create emotionally engaging, widely accessible musical worlds.
And for later generations of electronic artists, including those working in Trance, that legacy remains part of a shared musical history.
OXYGENE & BEYOND brings those connections together, celebrating the past without treating electronic music as a finished chapter.
Fifty years after Oxygène, Jean-Michel Jarre is still exploring what electronic music can become.
