Johan Gielen & Arkayne – Save Face (Airscape Remix)

Johan Gielen makes his return to Black Hole Recordings for the first time in 2024, alongside Arkayne. Meeting for the first time at a writers’ camp back in 2023, the two hit it off and immediately started working more closely together. “We were bouncing ideas back and forth as if we were playing ‘creative tennis’ for years,” Johan says jokingly. “There was an immediate chemistry in the sessions, and we were both eager to see where that could lead us.” After a year of “sonic silence,” Arkayne, whose real name is Kevin van der Tholen, is ready to re-enter the industry. When asked about his short hiatus, he replies: “Music is art, and evolving that takes time. I don’t want to become a broken record, and I think meeting Johan was truly the right place, and right time moment. Save Face is something else for both of us.” The year 2023 ended with the powerful “Love From Above,” and “Save Face” felt like a fresh (winter) wind for both Johan Gielen and Arkayne. The combination of their musical backgrounds is abundantly clear in this trance-meets-breaks powerhouse. Just listening to the granular influences and vocals by Arkayne, along with Johan’s added ethereal trance feeling, makes you float on melancholy and never want to come down.
