Released in 1999 on Mindworx, John Rees vs. Helios‘ “Beta Blocker (JR Trance Mix)” captures the harder, more underground side of the golden era of Trance. With its driving, club-oriented character and Tech-Trance sensibility, the track represents a period when Trance and Techno regularly crossed paths in DJ sets. Its place in Trance history is reinforced by Paul van Dyk, who featured the JR Trance Mix in his BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix performances at London’s Home nightclub and Homelands in 2000. A lesser-known classic with a genuine connection to the era’s underground dance floors.
Rather than a crossover anthem or commercial chart success, “Beta Blocker” is best remembered as a DJ-driven underground record from a formative period in Trance history.
