Key4050 and Bo Bruce transform longing into peak-time euphoria on “Empty Space”, a powerful 138 BPM vocal-trance anthem that pairs Bo Bruce’s fragile delivery with the unmistakable drive of John O’Callaghan and Bryan Kearney.

From Festival ID to Official Release

For many trance fans, “Empty Space” will already feel familiar. Key4050 premiered the collaboration during their performance at ASOT Elevation in Rotterdam in February 2026, beginning a six-month journey of live testing and radio support before its official release.

Armin van Buuren introduced the track to his wider audience through A State Of Trance 1280 in June. It later appeared on “A State Of Trance, Ibiza 2026” and returned during ASOT 1289. By release day, the once-unidentified production had already developed the recognition normally reserved for an established anthem.

The long build-up now carries even greater significance: “Empty Space” is the first single from a new twelve-track Key4050 album scheduled for early 2027.

Vulnerability Meets Key4050 Power

The emotional centre of “Empty Space” belongs to Bo Bruce. Her distinctive, slightly fractured voice conveys distance and vulnerability without resorting to exaggerated drama. The repeated admission “I need you now” is uncomplicated, but that simplicity makes it immediately memorable.

Around her, John O’Callaghan and Bryan Kearney construct a characteristically forceful trance foundation. A firm kick, rolling bassline and urgent percussion give the track its 138 BPM momentum, while atmospheric layers gradually open the production toward its melodic climax.

The result occupies the more uplifting side of the Key4050 catalogue. Its production remains powerful enough for a peak-time set, yet the rhythm never overwhelms the vocal narrative.

Light Inside the Empty Space

One of the track’s most effective qualities is the contrast between its words and its harmonic character. Bo Bruce sings about distance, absence and the space left behind by another person, but the production is written in F Major and continually reaches toward light.

That tension prevents the record from becoming purely melancholic. Its breakdown allows the vocal to breathe before the melody rises and the full rhythm returns, transforming private longing into a communal trance-floor release.

The Extended Mix is particularly satisfying. At almost seven minutes, it gives the breakdown and final payoff the space they deserve while retaining functional opening and closing sections for DJs. The shorter Original Mix communicates the song effectively, but the extended arrangement delivers the complete emotional journey.

Familiar by Design, Powerful in Execution

“Empty Space” does not attempt to redefine vocal trance. Its refrain is direct, its progression is familiar and its main payoff arrives exactly where an experienced trance listener expects it.

But predictability is not the same as weakness. Key4050 understand how to build tension without unnecessary excess, while Bo Bruce gives the production an identity that cannot be reduced to its kick, bassline or lead melody.

There is also meaningful history behind the collaboration. Bryan Kearney’s remix of Gareth Emery and Bo Bruce’s “U” became the ASOT Tune Of The Year in 2014, while their later single “Shine A Light” placed third in the 2023 poll. “Empty Space” feels like the natural continuation of that relationship, expanded through the combined production identity of Key4050.

TranceAttack Verdict

“Empty Space” succeeds because every element serves the same emotional objective. Bo Bruce supplies vulnerability, Key4050 provide scale and momentum, and the extended arrangement turns a simple expression of absence into a genuine peak-time moment.

It may favour emotional directness over experimentation, but its vocal identity, melodic lift and club power make it one of the strongest vocal-trance releases of 2026—and an extremely promising first glimpse of the next Key4050 album.
