Same procedure like last year? Same procedure like every year… The DJ Mag Top 100 2016 results are published and the discussions have started. As everyone knows it is mostly about popularity and other strange things (does anyone remember ipads on festivals?) in the poll and definitely less about music. Even if everyone is saying that the results can not be taken serious, there is one trend shown. Other music styles in the electronic music genre dominate more and more in comparision to Trance. In a time where the genre TRANCE shows a wonderful variety of different styles and impresses with amazing artists, growing brands, sold out festivals and a strong community, the quantity of trance artists in the poll is decreasing.
Legends like Ferry Corsten (99), Markus Schulz (80), Paul van Dyk (60), Above & Beyond (47) or Aly & Fila (41) are not even in the Top 30. Brillant artists like Solarstone, Giuseppe Ottaviani, Cosmic Gate, Alex M.O.R.P.H. or ilan Bluestone are not even in the Top 100.
Only Armin van Buuren made it again into the Top5 and is placed on No.4! For the fifteenth year in a row, Armin van Buuren secured a spot in the Top 5. Congrats Armin for this impressive achievement!
But for the Trance scene in general this years DJ Mag Top 100 results are again a desaster… or in other words… DJ Mag Top 100 and Trance – that does not fit well. So let’s concentrate less on the Poll and more on the music!
What do you think about this years results of the DJ Mag Top 100?
