Tiësto joins Berlin’s CLEOPARD2000 and CH4YN for “Hard To Be Around”, a fast, emotionally charged Vocal Trance collaboration that pairs vulnerable songwriting with 143 BPM peak-time energy. Released through Atlantic Records on October 2, 2026, the track connects Tiësto’s renewed relationship with Trance to a younger generation already reshaping the genre through Eurotrance, Hard Trance and contemporary club influences.

Vulnerability at 143 BPM

“Hard To Be Around” works because its emotional core and its club energy pull in opposite directions.

At the centre is a vulnerable male vocal built around the admission that someone can be difficult to live with or get close to. A guitar-led passage gives that idea room to breathe before the track returns to its faster electronic framework. Instead of treating the vocal simply as a hook between drops, the production allows the song itself to become part of the record’s identity.

That contrast gives “Hard To Be Around” considerably more character than a purely functional peak-time track. The rhythm moves with the urgency expected from the current fast-trance generation, while the topline introduces uncertainty and introspection.

The result is emotional without becoming soft and energetic without sacrificing melody.

A new-generation Trance record rather than a nostalgia exercise

At around 143 BPM, “Hard To Be Around” sits closer to the current intersection of Vocal Trance, Eurotrance and Hard Trance than to traditional uplifting Trance.

That distinction matters.

CLEOPARD2000 has built his sound around Trance, Hard Trance and Eurodance, combining melody-driven production with vocals and longer emotional passages. CH4YN similarly works between melodic songwriting and harder electronic club production. Together they represent a younger movement that borrows freely from different eras of dance music without treating the 1990s or early 2000s as something that simply needs to be recreated.

Tiësto fits surprisingly naturally into that world.

His renewed interest in Trance has increasingly been about connecting his own history with the music currently being played by a new generation rather than trying to reproduce his classic catalogue. “Hard To Be Around” may be one of the clearest examples yet of that approach.

From PRISMATIC ID to Tiësto collaboration

The track also arrives with an unusually interesting pre-release history.

Listeners first encountered “Hard To Be Around” during the summer as a CLEOPARD2000 & CH4YN record. Tiësto included it in PRISMATIC 028 in July, when it was still circulating as a white label, and continued supporting it in his live sets over the following months.

By late September, the final artist billing had changed: Tiësto was now part of the collaboration alongside CLEOPARD2000 and CH4YN.

Exactly how the record evolved during that period has not yet been publicly documented, but its journey from an unreleased track inside Tiësto’s sets to an official three-way Atlantic Records release makes the collaboration feel considerably more organic than a simple name-on-name pairing.

Three generations of ideas in one record

The headline name will inevitably attract attention, but “Hard To Be Around” is most convincing when viewed as a genuine meeting of musical perspectives.

CLEOPARD2000 supplies the emotional Eurotrance and Hard Trance vocabulary. CH4YN brings melodic tension and contemporary club weight. Tiësto places those ideas inside the broader Prismatic world he has been developing throughout 2026.

Crucially, the younger artists do not disappear behind the biggest name on the artwork.

The record sounds relevant precisely because Tiësto is stepping into their territory as much as they are entering his.

TranceAttack verdict

“Hard To Be Around” is one of the more convincing examples of Tiësto’s current Trance chapter because it does not depend on recreating his past.

There is still an obvious connection to the emotional instinct that defined so much of his classic work, but the tempo, production language and collaborators belong firmly to the present. The vulnerable vocal gives the track an identity beyond its drop, while the fast Eurotrance/Hard Trance framework gives that emotion genuine dance-floor force.

Most importantly, CLEOPARD2000 and CH4YN feel like collaborators rather than supporting names. Their melodic, high-energy approach is fundamental to what makes the record work.

A strong original song, a meaningful generational crossover and a record that manages to sound unmistakably like Trance without being trapped by one particular era of it.
