ALPHA 9 returns with “Dark Matter”, a dark and cinematic Main-Floor Trance record that pushes his progressive foundations towards a heavier peak-time sound. Released through Dreamstate Records on July 10th, 2026, the 132 BPM instrumental combines driving bass pressure, futuristic atmospheres, and densely layered synth work without losing the melodic precision associated with Artem Stoliarov’s Trance-focused alias.
A darker ALPHA 9 built for peak time
“Dark Matter” does not chase the warm, floating emotion found in some of ALPHA 9’s best-known productions. Its opening establishes a firmer club foundation, using a weighty kick, compact bass movement, and a controlled sense of tension. At 132 BPM, the track is not unusually fast, but the arrangement gives every rhythmic element enough density to feel imposing on a large system.
That balance is important. The record carries the physical authority of modern Main-Floor Trance while retaining the careful pacing of Progressive Trance. Rather than revealing its central idea immediately, it lets the atmosphere expand around the groove and gradually increases the pressure.
Cosmic storytelling without a vocal
The title is reflected throughout the production. Twinkling keys, ambient cinematics, and hyper-layered synth leads create a vast science-fiction setting, turning the instrumental into something closer to a transmission from deep space than a conventional festival anthem.
Dreamstate presents the release as the score to ALPHA 9’s return: a voyager racing through the void after uncovering the core of the universe. That concept could easily have remained promotional decoration, but the music supports it. The breakdown creates scale through texture rather than spoken words or an oversized orchestral melody, while the returning leads feel urgent, bright, and slightly unstable.
Because there is no vocal to provide an emotional center, the track relies on sound design and harmonic movement. Its most effective moments come when several synth layers converge, creating a climax that feels expansive without becoming sentimental.
Progressive roots meet main-floor pressure.
“Dark Matter” sits between several contemporary Trance directions. Its 132 BPM tempo, patient development, and melodic detail remain connected to Progressive Trance. The darker timbres, heavier low end and forceful payoff introduce a Tech Trance edge. Yet neither description is complete on its own.
The clearest classification is Main-Floor Trance with progressive and cinematic influences. It is too melody-led to become a pure Tech Trance weapon, but too muscular and direct to sit comfortably among ALPHA 9’s softer progressive material.
That tension gives the track its identity: it sounds like ALPHA 9, only translated for a darker and larger room.
A new chapter for Artem Stoliarov
ALPHA 9 is the Trance-focused project of Artem Stoliarov, also widely known as ARTY. After returning from a seven-year hiatus in 2017, the alias developed into a broader creative world and released its first studio album, New Horizons, in 2023.
“Dark Matter” marks ALPHA 9’s debut on Dreamstate Records and begins a more explicitly episodic phase of the project. New releases are being connected through journal entries that gradually reveal the character’s story, turning the music into part of a continuing science-fiction narrative.
The approach suits Stoliarov’s strengths. His productions have always combined emotional melody with detailed, polished sound design. Here, those qualities remain intact, but the mood is darker, the bassline is stronger, and the final result is clearly aimed at peak-time Trance sets.
TranceAttack verdict
With “Dark Matter”, ALPHA 9 opens a compelling new chapter without abandoning the musical identity that made the alias distinctive. The record is powerful enough for a Dreamstate main stage, yet its strongest qualities remain the atmosphere, gradual development, and melodic layering that underpin that impact.
It may not deliver the immediate emotional warmth some listeners expect from ALPHA 9, but that is precisely the point. “Dark Matter” explores a colder, more forceful side of his sound, balancing cinematic world-building with genuine DJ functionality.
The result is a sophisticated peak-time Trance record that feels familiar in craftsmanship but fresh in direction.
