Sneijder transforms Bart Claessen’s 2005 classic “Playmo” into a relentless 144 BPM Tech Trance weapon, retaining its unmistakable central hook while surrounding it with harder kicks, accelerated pacing, and contemporary main-floor impact.

A Tech Trance classic brought back to full speed.

Some classic records are remembered for an unforgettable melody. Others are defined by atmosphere, vocals or a particular emotional moment. “Playmo” has always operated differently.

Bart Claessen’s original is built around a hook that feels playful, mechanical and slightly strange at the same time. Its sharply articulated synth pattern gave the track a personality that stood apart even during a period filled with inventive Trance productions.

That distinctive motif remains the center of Sneijder’s remix. Rather than replacing the original idea, the Northern Irish producer increases the pressure around it. A heavier kick, denser low end and faster percussion transform the familiar riff into something significantly more aggressive.

The result sounds immediately recognizable but unmistakably contemporary.

Harder, faster and built for the peak-time floor

At 144 BPM, this version leaves little room for a gradual warm-up. The track establishes its pace quickly, using a compact kick-and-bass foundation and tightly controlled percussion to create constant forward momentum.

Sneijder’s production does not smooth out the original’s unusual character. He makes it hit harder.

The central synth sequence cuts through the arrangement with renewed force, while rave-influenced effects and short tension-building transitions reinforce the remix’s physical character. Each element is arranged around dance-floor impact rather than extended melodic development.

That makes “Playmo (Sneijder Remix)” primarily a Tech Trance record. Beatport’s Main-Floor Trance classification is understandable, but the hard-edged rhythm section, accelerated tempo and functional peak-time arrangement provide a more precise stylistic answer.

Sneijder preserves the hook instead of overcrowding it

Reworking a record with such a recognizable lead can easily become an exercise in excess. Too many new elements would dilute its identity; too few would make the remix feel unnecessary.

Sneijder finds a convincing balance.

The original hook has enough space to remain the dominant feature, but it now sits within a tougher, more modern production framework. The bass has greater weight, the transitions are sharper, and the drops arrive with the immediate impact expected of current high-energy Trance sets.

There are touches of Hard Trance in the speed and low-end physicality, alongside a contemporary techno-rave influence in the more stripped-back sections. However, the melodic language remains unmistakably rooted in Trance.

Sneijder has described the original as one of his favorite Tech Trance records and framed this remix as his own journey from 2005 to 2026. That personal connection is audible: the production respects what made “Playmo” memorable while refusing to treat it like a museum piece.

Bart Claessen’s unconventional Trance legacy

Bart Claessen emerged as one of the distinctive Dutch producers of the early 2000s, initially finding international success under his Barthezz alias before releasing records under his own name.

“Playmo” arrived in 2005 and became one of the defining tracks of that chapter of his career. Its unusual meeting point between Trance, techno, and playful electronic sound design helped it remain recognizable long after its original release.

Its lasting status is also reflected in the official all-time A State of Trance Top 1000, where the “1st Play Mix” was ranked at number 520.

The remix, therefore, revisits more than just an old catalog track. It connects two generations of Tech Trance: Claessen’s inventive mid-2000s approach and Sneijder’s modern combination of euphoria, darkness and rave-driven energy.

Sneijder’s dance-floor-first approach

Sneijder has built his sound around the intersection of uplifting and Tech Trance, often adding the intensity of 1990s rave music. His productions are designed first and foremost for energetic club and festival moments—a philosophy that makes him a particularly natural choice for “Playmo.”

That approach is clear throughout the remix. There is no unnecessary breakdown designed solely to add emotional grandeur. Instead, the arrangement remains focused on tension, release, and momentum.

The downside is that listeners hoping for a long, evolving reinterpretation may find the journey brief. This is not a remix built around gradual transformation. It is a concentrated peak-time update designed to deliver the “Playmo” motif with greater speed and force.

TranceAttack verdict

Sneijder’s remix succeeds because it understands exactly what should—and should not—be changed.

The distinctive “Playmo” hook remains intact, preserving the playful and unconventional personality of Bart Claessen’s original. Everything surrounding it has been reinforced: the tempo is faster, the kick is heavier, and the arrangement is more direct.

At 144 BPM, the remix represents the harder end of the current A State of Trance spectrum. It carries enough nostalgic appeal to connect with longtime fans, but its production is firmly geared towards contemporary peak-time sets.

A slightly longer arrangement could have allowed the tension and central theme to develop further. Nevertheless, the compact structure prevents the remix from losing focus and ensures that every section serves its dance-floor purpose.

The Sneijder Remix is therefore more than a routine revival. It is a respectful but forceful update that reconnects an inventive 2005 Tech Trance classic with the faster, tougher energy of 2026.
