Since 1997, Agnelli & Nelson have been writing and producing dance music, including their hits “El Nino” and “Everyday”. They have to date produced five Top 40 hits in the United Kingdom and countless remixes, from Armin van Buuren to U2. The pair have collaborated with other major artists, including Matt Darey, Solarstone and Chicane. In the last years, it’s been a little bit quiet around the trademark Agnelli & Nelson. Now the both are back in action. Or were they never away? Let’s talk to them!

TranceAttack: First of all, Welcome back! We missed you! What were the reasons for your decision to start your comeback in the “Trance scene”?
Agnelli & Nelson:
Really just to pick up where we left of, no real big reason to be honest , we have always been around we just didn’t really make any music together as A&N but we still playing gigs around the world so its not so much a comeback as just a return to the studio as A&N.

TranceAttack: What have you done all the years between 2008 (Sleeping in Airports/Coldharbour Rec.) and 2013 (Quest/Subculture)?
Agnelli & Nelson:
As I said we didn’t really stop, we have contiued playing gigs around the world and Robbie had a few tunes out since 2008 just as Robbie Nelson – Aviator , Shangri La , Up In Smoke and Agarta . Chris made some TV but we just didn’t care so much for the hype that surrounds the scene so we are only starting to get the social media aspect going again, we are a little behind!

TranceAttack: What happened to the Original of “New Light”?
Agnelli & Nelson:
The original is still to be released down the line – mostly likely free, we just liked the Protoculture Remix so much we thought we should release it right away and Subculture fast tracked it.

TranceAttack: What can we except from you and especially “Agnelli & Nelson” in 2014?
Agnelli & Nelson:
We don’t really have any big master plan, we would just like to really enjoy what we do and have some fun and not join the tread mill that seems to be the look at me mentality of the current crop as James Brown once said “Keep on doing want you are doing and make it funky” but we will try and make it fun proggy trancey dancey ha ha its all pretty chilled.

TranceAttack: Are there ideas about an “Agnelli & Nelson” Album?
Agnelli & Nelson:
No plans for an Album at the minute we just really want to make singles but not for the sake of it. Singles go as fast as they come and only a few get remembered, we come from an organic time when things happened naturally so we don’t beleive in forcing things so maybe you can never plan the future because it might not exist , we think its best to enjoy the now, no rush, never any rush.

TranceAttack: Are there already ideas to see you live in 2014?
Agnelli & Nelson:
Yes off course we never stopped playing gigs, just in the past we did to much traveling and though we do love to play, the traveling is not at the top of our list as things to do but we have a new agent so we will be doing more than we have done in the last few years.

TranceAttack: There are so many classics in your discography… Are there any ideas or plans of new remakes?
Agnelli & Nelson:
Not really but off course never say never ,so maybe its possible, but as we said we don’t really like spending time in the past or the future with us its all about the now and a natural progression.

TranceAttack: How can we imagine your work together when two different characters meet each other in the studio?
Agnelli & Nelson:
It’s much easier working together and two heads are better than one but we are sort of like the same person anyway as we have our birthdays pretty close only a few days apart and we both have different strengths so it works out pretty good.

TranceAttack: There are a lot movements in the music scene which focus back on the roots of the trance scene – like Solarstone’s “Pure Trance” or Armin van Buuren’s “Who’s afraid of 138!?”. How changed your style you prefer over all these years and what do think about these movements?
Agnelli & Nelson:
Its all about the branding and hype and competition, these are good in our opinion as they are true to the sound and not jumping on any band wagon, Pure trance and 138 are just a new idea’s to try and educate people who haven’t really heard proper trance , which we totally support.

TranceAttack: You look back on more than 15 years long career as Producers & Deejays. What is your opinion the changes in the “trance” scene in this time?
Agnelli & Nelson:
The real trance hasn’t really changed that much, apart from as we said before some labels have came and gone and off course the overall music business has had a major earthquake of which trance has been on the rollercoaster ride. However things go round and round and styles come and go , but there is other stuff masquerading as Trance and that’s not good, but at the end of the day music is music if its good who really cares what its called, but a bit of quality control with some peoples ears would be nice we noticed a lot of people in the business don’t really have a clue about music they are more into making cash which can be very destructive.

TranceAttack: With your whole experience in the business what advices would you give to young talents to stand out from the crowd?
Agnelli & Nelson:
First thing is get a good education and learn as much as you can, be yourself and follow your first gut feeling, focus on your work and remember with music there should be no law or rules , stick to what you set out to do and as we always say don’t jump on any band wagons as the wheels always fall of at some point and off course be prepared to work hard and live it, but most important you must enjoy the journey through sound and live for the moment.

TranceAttack: Thanks for the interview and we wish you all the best for the future!
